The first iVAC3L case in Greece was performed on June 17th, 2010 by Dr. Kyriakos Anastasiadis in Ahepa University Hospital, Thessaloniki.
The patient was a male suffering from acute decompensation of chronic heart failure and cardiogenic shock. The patient presented with an ejection fraction of 20% and a cardiac index of 18 L/min/m2.
The iVAC3L was inserted through the right subclavian artery with the help of a vascular graft prosthesis and was positioned in the left ventricle with the help of TEE. The insertion of the iVAC3L took 6 minutes, from the start of insertion to pumping.
10 minutes after the start of pumping MAP was measured at 70 mmHg and PAP was measured at 50 mmHg.
The iVAC3L supported the patient for 10 days, at the end of which the patient was stabilized and successfully weaned from the device.
The practicing physician was very pleased with both the performance and ease of use of the device.
